How Leveling Works

Children level up as they earn XP from completed quests

XP Requirements by Level:

XP Requirements by Level
Level XP Required Total XP
Level 1 → 2 100 XP 100 XP
Level 2 → 3 200 XP 300 XP
Level 3 → 4 300 XP 600 XP
Level 4 → 5 400 XP 1,000 XP
Level N → N+1 N × 100 XP Cumulative

🎉 Level Up Celebrations:

When a child levels up, they see a special animation on their dashboard and receive a notification. Make it special by celebrating in real life too!

Creating Effective Rewards

Design rewards that motivate without breaking the bank (or your sanity)

Reward Categories & Price Ranges:

💚 Low Cost (10-25 coins)

• Choose snack for dinner
• Pick tonight's movie
• 15 min extra screen time
• Choose dessert
• Pick seat in car
• Stay up 15 min late

💙 Medium Cost (30-50 coins)

• Friend over for afternoon
• Choose dinner menu
• 1 hour extra screen time
• Skip one chore this week
• Special breakfast treat
• Game with parent

💜 High Cost (75-150+ coins)

• Sleepover with friend
• New book or toy ($10-20)
• Family outing choice
• Special restaurant dinner
• Movie theater trip
• Weekend activity choice

💡 Pricing Tips:

  • • A typical quest gives 10-25 coins, so adjust prices accordingly
  • • Make high-value rewards feel achievable (5-10 quests worth)
  • • Offer both immediate gratification (cheap) and long-term goals (expensive)
  • • Non-monetary rewards (time, privileges) often work best

Managing the Reward Shop

Keep your shop fresh and engaging

Shop Workflow:

  1. Parents create rewards:

Go to Rewards page → Add New Reward → Set name, description, price

  2. Children browse shop:

Kids see all active rewards with prices and can save up for what they want

  3. Purchase rewards:

When child has enough coins, they click "Purchase" → Coins deducted automatically

  4. Redeem rewards:

Purchased rewards show in child's "Claimed" list → Parents fulfill in real life

  5. Mark as redeemed:

After fulfilling, parents mark reward as completed

Shop Management Tips:

  • Keep variety: Mix instant gratification with long-term goals
  • Seasonal rewards: Add holiday specials, summer activities, birthday month perks
  • Limited editions: Create scarcity with "only this week" special rewards
  • Toggle active/inactive: Rotate rewards to keep shop fresh without deleting
  • Child input: Let kids suggest rewards they'd actually want

Advanced Reward Settings

Fine-tune your family's reward economy

Settings → Rewards & Coins:

🎯 Reward Multipliers

Apply temporary boosts to XP or coin earnings:

  • 1.5x XP Weekend: Level up faster on Saturdays/Sundays
  • 2x Coins Week: Birthday month special, double coin rewards
  • Bonus for streak: Extra rewards for completing quests daily

💰 Weekly Allowance

Give children base income independent of quests:

  • • Set fixed weekly coin amount (e.g., 10 coins/week)
  • • Deposited automatically every Monday
  • • Good for younger kids or guaranteed baseline
  • • Can be higher for older/responsible children

📊 XP Scaling

Adjust difficulty of leveling up:

  • Easy Mode: Level requirements reduced by 25%
  • Normal: Default progression (Level N = N × 100 XP)
  • Hard Mode: Level requirements increased by 50%

Reward System Best Practices

Do:

  • ✓ Balance instant and long-term rewards
  • ✓ Make rewards age-appropriate
  • ✓ Include non-monetary rewards (privileges, time)
  • ✓ Let children save up for big goals
  • ✓ Celebrate level-ups as milestones
  • ✓ Adjust prices based on child's earning rate

Don't:

  • × Make rewards too expensive (unreachable)
  • × Only offer material rewards (stuff)
  • × Change prices after purchase
  • × Remove rewards kids are saving for
  • × Forget to fulfill claimed rewards
  • × Over-complicate the system
