Frequently Asked Questions
When you register as a parent, a family is automatically created for you. To add children:
- Go to My Children in your parent dashboard
- Click the "Add Child" button
- Enter your child's name and date of birth
- Set up a PIN for secure profile access
- Start assigning quests!
- Go to Settings โ Family tab
- Enter your partner's email address in the "Invite Co-Parent" section
- Click "Send Invitation"
- They'll receive a notification (if they have an account) or email (if they don't)
- They click the link to accept and join your family with equal permissions
The quest workflow follows these steps:
- Assignment: Parent selects a template or creates custom quest
- Acceptance: Child can accept or reject (if family allows)
- Completion: Child marks quest complete and uploads proof photo
- Approval: If enabled, parent reviews before awarding rewards
- Rewards: XP and coins are automatically awarded
The approval workflow is an optional setting that requires parents to review quest completions before awarding rewards.
When to use it:
- High-value quests with significant rewards
- Tasks requiring quality verification (cleaned room, completed homework)
- Building trust with younger children
- Tasks where photo proof isn't sufficient
Enable it in: Settings โ Quest Rules โ "Require parent approval for quest completion"
Children earn rewards by completing quests:
- XP (Experience Points): Used for leveling up and showing progression
- Coins: Currency for purchasing rewards from the family shop
Each quest template has default XP and coin values that you can customize when assigning. You can also set reward multipliers in family settings to boost earnings during special periods.
The reward shop lets children spend earned coins on custom rewards:
- Parents create rewards: Go to Rewards page, add items like "30 min screen time", "Choose dinner", "Stay up late"
- Set prices: Each reward costs a certain number of coins
- Children browse: Kids see available rewards in their shop
- Purchase: Children spend coins to claim rewards
- Redeem: Parents see purchased rewards and fulfill them
PINs are 4-8 digit security codes that protect profile access:
- Privacy: Prevent siblings from accessing each other's profiles
- Security: Ensure only authorized users see quest data
- Simplicity: Easy for kids to remember, faster than passwords
- Lockout protection: After 5 failed attempts, account locks for 30 minutes
Both parents and children can have PINs. Parents can use PINs or full passwords.
Set PINs: During child creation or later in Parent Profile โ PIN Management
QuestStream uses HBO Max-style QR code authorization for adding new devices:
- On your authorized device: Go to Parent Profile โ Device Authorization
- Click "Generate QR Code"
- On the new device: Open QuestStream and visit the authorization page
- Scan the QR code with your camera
- New device is instantly authorized!
Note: QR codes expire after 10 minutes for security. Generate a new one if needed.
This is controlled by a family setting:
- Default (rejection not allowed): Children must complete assigned quests
- Optional (rejection allowed): Children can decline quests they don't want to do
Change this setting: Settings โ Quest Rules โ "Allow children to reject assigned quests"
Philosophy: Choose based on your family values - teaching responsibility vs. giving children choice and autonomy.
Quest Categories: Quests are organized into 8 categories:
Quest Templates: Pre-made quests ready to assign (28+ available):
- Browse templates by category or age range
- Each has default XP/coin values you can customize
- Create your own custom templates
- Duplicate and modify existing templates
Access templates: Parent Dashboard โ Quest Templates tab
QuestStream uses a Netflix-style user picker after login:
- Parent logs in with email/password
- User Picker appears showing all family members (parents + children)
- Select a profile:
- Parent profiles: Enter password or PIN to switch
- Child profiles: Enter PIN to access
- Redirected to appropriate dashboard (parent or child view)
Switch profiles: Click your avatar/name โ "Switch Member"
Security: Each profile is PIN-protected to prevent unauthorized access
QuestStream uses two reward currencies:
โญ XP (Experience Points)
- For leveling up
- Shows progression
- Can't be spent
- Unlocks future features
๐ช Coins
- For buying rewards
- Shop currency
- Tangible rewards
- Motivates completion
Both are awarded when quests are completed. You can't convert between them - they serve different purposes in motivating and rewarding children.
